Supermarkets' own-brand drinks are not just cheaper than their branded rivals - they taste better too, according to a Which? taste test of various gins and dry white wines.
On the spirits side, the consumer site voted Morrisons' London Dry Gin the winner, despite it costing just £10.49 a bottle.
The runner-up, Lidl's Castelgy London Dry Gin, was cheaper still at £9.99.
The highest placed branded booze was Greenall's London Dry Gin in fourth, which sells for around £15 a bottle.
As for the wines, the Which? drinks panel voted Asda's Extra Special Leyda Valley Chilean Sauvignon Blanc the tastiest. It was also the cheapest at £5.75 a bottle.
The top branded option, Cono Sur Bicicleta Sauvignon Blanc 2014, was ranked the ninth tastiest overall.
Which? editor Richard Headland claimed the tests showed consumers should not assume pricier is better.
"Once again our taste tests have shown that supermarket own labels are giving the big brands a real run for their money," he said. "Some inexpensive bottles received a much higher score from our experts, proving you don't always need to splash out."
