A SANDWICH shop modelled on American grub is opening up in Glasgow.

Roasters is billed as Scotland's answer to New York deli Katz's - and it is set to open its doors in Partick in the coming weeks.

Jamie Crawford was inspired to open an eatery in the city after travelling round Canada and the States.

The 23-year-old, who is originally from Carluke, said: "I travelled from Toronto to New York last November and I just loved the food.

"I thought there was nothing really like it in Glasgow and I just thought we could do our own versions here.

"I've said it's going to be like Katz's because it was out of this world."

Jamie, who worked as a restaurant manager, is kitting out the venue which is based at Partick Subway Station.

It will specialise in fresh pastrami sandwiches, grilled cheese creations, hot dogs and other American favourites.

Jamie added: "We are delighted to be bringing something new and exciting to the food scene in the West End and Partick area of Glasgow."

It is expected to open next month.
