Who are you?

Keith Anderson, 36, Salon Director of Andersons Hair & bespoke barbering.

What does your business do?

We are an environmentally friendly hair salon that provides hairdressing for both men and women. We are the premier location to experience the natural Davines brand and we are proud to be the only Davines exclusive hair salon in Glasgow.

It is the perfect place to come to experience what Davines is all about. Davines gives careful attention to and respects our environment. By using high grade natural ingredients, their products are original, authentic and connect emotionally with people.

Where are you based?

Anderson's Hair is situated on 14 South Frederick Street in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. The bright spacious feel offers a retreat of calm amongst the chaos and rush of everyday city life.

The interior was built with sustainable values and we were committed to reducing the environmental impact with the décor choices. The salon’s unique design features all reclaimed wood with complimenting natural colours and materials. We wanted the salon to work in harmony with our Davines product range.

How did you get started?

I decided to open my own salon because over the last few years I have had so many ideas that I wanted to explore and develop. Having my own salon will allow me to do this. The minute I saw the unit on South Frederick Street I fell in love with it. The location was prefect, the size and feel of the space was exactly what I wanted. It has the most unbelievable shop front with beautiful big window to allow natural light into the space.

What is your background?

I started my career in hairdressing later in life when I was 26 years old. I have been in the hairdressing industry for over 10 years. I started my career at Rainbow Room International working with some of the most talented and influential hairdressers. This is where my passion begun for hairdressing from the beginning, I knew I had found my true calling.

For the past 6 years I was a stylist and one of the Managers at the Aveda salon. Where I have had the opportunity to meet some really fantastic people but in 2014 I decided it was time to go it alone and set up Glasgow’s first eco hair salon.

What is your top tip?

Dare to do what you believe in rather than conforming to the mainstream. This will keep you ahead of the competition and never stop learning.

How long has your business been running?

Since opening in November 2014 I have been overwhelmed at all the love and support I have received and we have already won two prestigious awards at the Salon Business Awards; Green salon of the year and Salon design of the year. We are also honoured to have made the final of best new salon at the Creative Head most wanted awards the winner still to be announced in September.

Who was/ is your mentor/ inspiration?

My mentors and inspiration have been Alan and Linda Stewart from Rainbow Room International what they have achieved is nothing short of amazing. Dylan and their team taught me the amazing craft of hairdressing for which I am extremely grateful.

Plan for next five years?

Next step is to expand our basement which will double our capacity with the addition of bespoke barbering which will offer a full range of gents grooming.

We are also looking to do more sustainable partnerships like our partnership with Plan Bee allowing guests to adopt a bee when in the salon from the money raised it is allowing Andersons Hair to adopt our very own bee hive which hopefully can be donated to my sons school.
