It’s a fact that many people – particularly men – take something to read when they go to sit on the loo ... but in the middle of the street?
This gent catching up with the latest morning news in November 1997 did not look in the least concerned that he was giving other people something to smile about as they went about their business in Glasgow city centre.
He was one of a number of traders who stacked his goods on the street outside the Briggait, with passers-by able to snap up a bargain.
Since then the Briggait, in the Merchant City,  has undergone massive changes.
The A-listed building, which was constructed in 1873, was once the city’s fishmarket but that moved in 1977.
In the 1980s the Briggait was developed into a shopping centre.
But the building has now been transformed into numerous workspaces for visual artists and cultural organisations.

Glasgow Times:

Ferrs please! That was the cry of the bus conductress in the 1960s. The women on the right look to be too deep in conversation to be paying attention – they must have previously paid for their tickets
