Who are you?

We are Catriona Futter and Vivienne Brown of Change Tack.

What does your business do?

We offer a combined approach of both life and career coaching providing bespoke individual packages for clients.

We help our clients find alternative ways forward where they previously felt they were not achieving their lifestyle or career aspirations for whatever reasons.

Where are you based?

We work from home and meet clients in convenient, confidential places.

How did you get started?

Individually we each run our own businesses offering our respective coaching and we met at a networking event run by Women Into Business.

We recognised the potential in combining our skills and we then met up after the event to discuss how to take our idea forward.

What is your background?

Catriona is a certified Life Coach and prior to this she worked as a physiotherapist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Vivienne is qualified in career coaching, with significant experience in career change and development.

What is your top business tip?

Thorough and meticulous planning, research and preparation.

We took several months to define clearly what we both could offer, how we could work together and the combined service we could provide.

Running a business is about knowing what you can do, who you are for and what you hope to achieve.

How long has your business been running?

We first met in June 2014 and we launched Change Tack in spring this year.

Has anyone helped you get started and how?

The Women Into Business event run in conjunction with Business Gateway (at which we met) was a fantastic opportunity to learn from others in business, network, and gain new skills and support from each other.

Since then Catriona has also attended several of the fully funded workshops run by Business Gateway and we have benefitted from their expertise in how to set up a new business.

What was your first deal?

Our first success was through placing our business cards at a GP practice.

What was your biggest mistake/or what would you do differently?

If we were to do anything differently it would be to improve our marketing.

It can be hard for clients to find small businesses as to keep costs down for clients, we can’t market like larger ones.

Who was/is your mentor/inspiration?

Our motivation is for our clients to be their own inspiration as they find new solutions to their own challenges from within themselves.

Where do you plan your business to be in five years’ time?

Our passion is to support people who are ‘stuck’ or facing major work transitions and help them enjoy a fulfilling, purposeful life and career.

Therefore we simply want to have an established client base with a growing list of referrals from satisfied customers.

Our other goal is to provide more work based workshops and events.
