Pan-Asian eatery Bar Soba has unveiled its new menu for Autumn/Winter.

The restaurant chain, who are based in the city centre, Merchant City and West End, say the new menu is inspired by innovative food vendors from the bustling South-East Asian night markets.

Soba's executive chef Nik Biok says the menu is inspired by dishes he grew up with and memories of his time in Asia. Nik was born in Australia but raised all over South-East Asia.

He said: "I first fell in love with Street Food vendors in the back streets of Kuta Beach and Ubud in Bali, Indonesia and our signature peanut sauce tastes exactly like the sauce I used to eat on my Sate as a child in the village in Bali.

"I was lucky enough to spend time living in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand as a child and Hong Kong as an adult, and I believe that there is no greater inspiration for an honest Menu than happy eating memories.

"Our new steamed Beef War Tip dumplings remind me of my time in Hong Kong. Every Tuesday, my neighbour Mr Han would invite me to his home for a meal with his family and we would swap our favourite Eastern and Western recipes. He would always serve these Dumplings when we made Dim Sum together."

Glasgow Times:

“‘Pan-Asian’ is an ideology that seeks to unify all of Asia and this Menu has also given me a platform to unify my experiences in South East Asia, my original training in Classic French cookery and my love of Scottish produce.

"For our new Aromatic Red Duck, I’ve taken a classic French confit duck and blended this with flavours of Thai Red Curry that I first enjoyed on the beaches of Koh Samui. Our Teriyaki Beef noodles have very traditional Japanese foundations but are topped with a premium cut of Scottish hanger steak.”

The menu features something for all tastes as contrary to popular belief, not all Pan-Asian dishes are dominated by chilli. The Massaman Beef Curry is full of spices without being spicy and features aromatic cardamom, tomato, cinnamon, mustard seed and lemon zest.

The new Menu is available now in all Soba venues and features Platters, Small Plates, Rice Bowls, Noodle Bowls, Main Plates and Desserts. Each venue will also offer a 2 Course £8.95 Express Lunch Menu and £12.95 Pre-theatre from Monday to Friday.
