When a chill was in the air in Glasgow, where better to go than the Barras for roasted chestnuts. This lad would be staying close to the heat – everyone seems well wrapped up, but he is still in his shorts

Glasgow Times:

Lisa Jeans and Lloyd White, both 14-year-old pupils, showed off their handiwork in 1989.
They were tasked with cleaning up the weather vane that topped the Barclays Tower at the Glasgow Garden Festival.
Bank ornament or not, it had been suffering after seagulls left their deposits on it.
But the pupils came to the rescue, cleaning it up and adding a gull-resistant lacquer.
The youngsters came from Whitehill Secondary School in the east end of Glasgow, and followed in the footsteps of some illustrious pupils. Entertainers Lulu, Ford Kiernan, Rikki Fulton and Bill Paterson all attended the school founded in 1891, which moved from its original location in Dennistoun’s Whitehill Street in 1977.
Whether these pupils chose to go on stage when they left school is not known but, like many others in the city at the time, they can be proud of their involvement in a major event.
