Whatever you do, don't try this at home
Manually changing the date on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch permanently bricks the device, so probably best to avoid trying it altogether (or pranking your friends by doing it).
The date change causes your phone to get permanently stuck when trying to re-boot, after it has been switched off.
It just cannot cope with it.
YouTuber Zach Straley released a video demonstrating exactly how it happens, and it involves a lot of scrolling to get the date back to 1970.
There’s currently no known way to fix it, even the geniuses at the Apple Store are clueless.
The date bug affects iPhones, iPads or iPod touches running iOS 8 or iOS 9. So, that includes any iPhone from 5s and onwards.
