When should I talk to my children about sex?

The best time is when your children are pre-teen but old enough to understand; typically this is between 10 and 12 years old.

Having an honest discussion will help them get the facts rather than playground myths and help them develop a healthy, responsible attitude to sex. It can feel awkward to have the conversation and your child might not want to admit how little they know so look for opportunities to bring up the conversation, perhaps a scene in a film or when you notice puberty beginning.

Remember it is important to talk about sexual feelings and relationships as much as a physical act of sex. Discuss sexual orientation, including heterosexuality, bisexuality and homosexuality and the dangers of peer pressure. It is good to let them know they do not have to let themselves be pressured into anything (even online) and how a healthy relationship, based on mutual respect, should work.

I have an embarrassing tattoo from a lads weekend away. Is laser removal safe and can I get it done on the NHS?

To answer the first part of your question, modern techniques make laser removal one of the safest ways to get rid of an unwanted tattoo. There is minimal risk of scarring if it is carried out by a reputable tattoo remover. Success will depend on the location, size and colour of the tattoo (blue and black tattoos respond best to laser treatment) but you should see a noticeable improvement.

Tattoo removal is not normally available on the NHS as it is a cosmetic procedure.
