Fancy a swally in a proper traditional pub where the older Scottish gentlemen are likely to frequent?

We’ve sorted out the trendy from the retro, sniffed out the best whiskies and real ales to bring you a list of Glasgow’s best old man pubs.

The Horseshoe Bar

Glasgow Times:

Just a short stagger from Central Station on Drury Street, this pub is legendary for its karaoke nights. As well as this, the Horseshoe Bar offers good grub and a nice range of ales.

The Griffin

Glasgow Times:

A welcome place for theatre goers and actors performing at the nearby Kings, the Griffin is one of Glasgow’s favourite traditional pubs. The pub appeared in Iain Banks novel Espedair Street.

The Lismore

Glasgow Times:

Take a trip into the West End for some great live music at The Lismore on Dumbarton Road. Traditional music is a favourite here at this popular haunt as well as the varied selection of whiskies to suit all tastes.

Scotia Bar

Glasgow Times:

Head back in time by visiting one of the oldest pubs in Glasgow. Famed for its great atmosphere and traditional feel, you also might be seeing spirits as well drinking them as the Scotia is rumoured to be haunted.

The Station Bar

Glasgow Times:

Nestled in Cowcaddens this pub is a favourite for workers, tourists and those awaiting applications at the nearby passport office.

The Three Judges

Glasgow Times:

If you’re in the Partick area then The Three Judges on Dumbarton Road is a favourite watering hole for the locals. No music here, just a good atmosphere and good selection of real ales.

The Alpen Lodge

Glasgow Times:

Looks it should be in the Alps on the outside, but inside you will find some Glasgow characters, plenty of banter and a rowdy karaoke.

Steps Bar

Glasgow Times:

This city centre boozer on Glassford Street is both charming and dated in a good way. Basic but still holding on to its art deco interior, its regulars love this pub for its charm.

The Laurieston

Glasgow Times:

Visit one of Glasgow’s proper no thrills pubs which feels like it has been frozen in time. This pub which sits on Bridge Street across from the O2 Academy can be popular with gig goers, but the majority of the time it’s home to its loyal regulars.

The Pot Still

Glasgow Times:

Whisky lovers looking for huge choice of drams head to this famous pub on Hope Street to admire their collection of malts which runs into the hundreds. This pub has a warm traditional feel and attracts tourists, city workers and old men of course.
