GLASGOW bar Dram! has been shortlisted for a prestigious prize at The Scottish Bar and Pub Awards.

From a total of 1400 entries this year Dram! has made the final four in the Diageo Social Responsiblity and Community Award category. The bar's work with local students as well as community groups has been recognised before the awards ceremony on August 16 at Glasgow's Hilton Hotel.

Manager Jacqui Keith and her team including assistant manager Erin McGeough are thrilled to be in the running after opening the pub seven years ago.

Erin said: "We have strong ties with our local community including the student population of Glasgow Uni as well as local educators and organisers. We initially sponsored ten clubs and societies in Glasgow Uni and now sponsor around twenty financially. It's not a prerequisite to drink in pub. We sponsor activities like the sports club's training, purchasing of kit and transportation and we also offer twenty per cent discount cards to students on food."

The bar also works to be socially responsible when it comes to drinking.

Erin added: "We have a duty of care to our younger customer base and a strict challenge twenty five policy. Our staff are fully trained in this and we also provide a free space for lectures and a free taxi phone in service. We are always happy to help the local community."

Glasgow Times:

Judges from DRAM Magazine, who host the awards, and Diageo are looking for a responsible pub or bar that has developed good relationships with local police, community safety partnerships, community groups, and licensing forums to help minimise alcohol-related crime, as well as those who go the extra mile to offer a community service.

DRAM Magazine instigated the first ever licensed trade awards 21 years ago, and today the entry has never been stronger. Some of the biggest names in the drinks industry – including the BII, Caledonian Brewery, Diageo Disaronno, Gordon & Macphail, Inverarity Morton, Isle of Arran Distillers, Kopparberg, Maxxium / Mixxit, Molson Coors and Tennents, as well as Glencairn Crystal, Bright Signals, Flow Training and the Sunday Mail – back the awards.

This year's awards have a Brazilian theme to celebrate Rio hosting the Olympic Games.
