1 POLLOK Country Park
(www.glasgow.gov.uk/eventsinthepark) is a happy hub of activities and events this Easter – highlights include crafting with the Countryside Rangers in the Visitor Centre every day from April 1 to 16 (apart from Good Friday, April 14, when it’s closed) from 11am until 3.30pm; and tours of the famous Fairy Village, daily at 10am and 2pm, between April 3 and 7, and between April 10 and 13. Both are free.
The park will also host family garden talks, children’s spring crafts, Easter egg trails and behind the scenes stable visits.
Hazel Nicholls, Assistant Livestock Supervisor, said: “We have a variety of events taking place in and around Pollok Country Park over the Easter break. We’re all really excited about it and the staff are working egg-stra hard to make sure there is something for everyone to enjoy – and the animals are helping too of course!
“We can’t wait.”
2 KELVINGROVE
Museum and Art Gallery (0141 276 9505) is hosting the Frank Quitely: Art of Comics exhibition from April 1 to October 1 and to tie in with it, will be running Comixworld: Drama Camp for 12 to 16-year-olds.
Planet Earth is in danger and it needs to be saved. Participants will create and perform a drama in Kelvingrove Museum over three days by exploring the multiverse of superheroes and villains and designing costumes for your performance.
Young people can also achieve a Dynamic Youth or add to your current Youth Achievement Award with this event. It takes place from April 4 to 6, 10.30am to 4pm and costs £25. Booking is essential as parental and photo consent are required.
3 KELVIN HALL
IT’S all about the butterflies at Kelvin Hall this April – look out for Flutterby Butterfly, a free, drop in event on April 5, from 1.30pm until 4pm.
Walk along the Avenue to the Collections Showcase, a fantastic display of objects from each of the Kelvin Hall partners.
Have a look at the pinned butterflies in the case and use them as inspiration to make a beautiful fluttering butterfly mobile.
4 RIVERSIDE MUSEUM
IF sea creatures are more your kind of thing, head for Riverside Museum on April 6, any time between 11am and 12.30pm. You can learn how to make and decorate a collection of 3D cardboard marine animals….This event is free.
5 ST MUNGO MUSEUM
April 8 is Hanamatsuri, the Japanese floral festival which celebrates the birth of Buddha. St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art is hosting Hanamatsuri Flowers on the same day, a free, drop-in event from 1.30pm until 4pm, where you can decorate pots and plant seeds in a celebration of new life this spring….
6 GLASGOW MUSEUM RESOURCE CENTRE
Did you know the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre has an impressive collection of sea shells? Drop in any time between 1pm and 3pm on April 12 for Shell Sculptures, which gives you the chance to see the variety of seashells in the collection and then try your hand at sculpting your own. It’s free to attend.
7 SCOTLAND STREET MUSEUM
It wouldn’t be Easter without a bunny mask making workshop and Scotland Street School Museum is happy to oblige. Everyone is welcome to pop in between 1.30pm and 4pm on April 12 – you can learn how to make the mask then hop off round the museum to track down the hidden Easter chicks amongs the exhibits.
8 PEOPLE’S PALACE
Take a journey back in time to the Groovy 60s at the People’s Palace on April 13 (1.30pm to 4pm). This fun series of workshops will bring the spirit of the decade alive.
9 GALLERY OF
MODDERN ART
Get your eggs ready for an egg hunt at the Gallery of Modern Art on April 15, from 10.30am until 12.30pm. The Saturday Arts Club will be focusing on egg decorating at this special event…
10 SPRINGFIELD QUAY
For something a little bit different, head for Springfield Quay between April 4 and 17 for the Easter Wonderland Show.
More than 20,000 balloons will be used to create a spectacular event for families including an Easter egg hunt, a walk-through giant balloon garden, magic show and workshops. It costs £7.95 per person, under-threes go free and a family ticket for four costs £28.
