Elderslie Street

As one of the oldest and most-loved Indian restaurants in Glasgow, the Singhs have had a big presence in the city’s food scene for more than two decades.

From traditional dishes like Ambala - made to a closely-guarded family recipe - to imaginative Scots fusions like haggis chasni and mince and tatties curry, the restaurant is testament to the fact that Glasgow is the curry capital of the UK.

The much-loved and family-run resident of Alexandra Parade was founded in 1982 and is whatever customers choose to make of it; café, restaurant, delicatessen, and takeaway.

With a wide range of dishes on offer - including breakfast, lunch, and dinner - customers can be rest assured food is always prepared using the finest ingredients and cooked to perfection.

3. Coias Café
Duke Street

The Coia family opened their first café in Dennistoun in 1928 and, ever since then, it’s been a favourite meeting place for locals of all ages.

Priding themselves on friendly attitude and high-quality food, Coias offers a packed menu, offering everything from authentic pizza and pasta to mouthwatering steaks and seafood - and everything else in between.

4. The Grill Room at the Square
Royal Exchange Square

Nestled in a lovely section of the bustling city centre, the restaurant has proven itself to be one of the UK’s top steak houses. Overlooking the stylish Royal Exchange Square, the eatery’s Sunday roast menu is very popular as customers dine with live music from 2pm to 5pm.

With impeccable attention to detail that helps to make the dining experience unforgettable, prime, dry-aged steaks are the top favourite.

5. Paesano Pizza
Miller Street
Having just opened in 2015, the restaurant still sees queues stretching out onto the street on a daily basis as pizza-fiends flock to the venue for a slice of that light and soft crust, made the traditional Napoletana way.

The fresh Tuscan fennel sausage pizza and the special smoked cheese and aubergine one are among our top favourites, so make sure you head along as early on as possible to be guaranteed a table.

The restaurant has since expanded into Great Western Road also, with an Edinburgh location also on the cards, according to bosses.

6. Grill on the Corner
Bothwell Street

No-nonsense food, including 28-day aged premium steak, fresh seafood, plenty of desserts, and cocktails in a stunning atmosphere, the restaurant is one of the city’s most popular, especially around graduation season.

Since becoming part of the Two Fat Ladies group, The Buttery has gone from strength to strength as the eatery strives to provide the very best in Scottish seafood and moreish desserts including crème brulee, Irish whisky cream ganache, and cheeses.

8. CATCH
Clarkston Road

Describing itself as “a posh modern-day neighbourhood fish and chip shop and restaurant,” CATCH is revolutionising a true British classic.

Light and crispy batter on the freshest of fish is what the team specialises in, along with lobster, halibut, langoustine tails, burgers - and even old-fashioned fish finger sandwiches. Even better is the fact most of the seafood is sourced from around Scotland coasts.

9. Café Andaluz
St Vincent Place

Handy for a quick lunch after a day of shopping and pampering, a business lunch or just dinner with friends, the kitchen loves to dish out the best in Spanish cuisine.

A couple of our favourites include the freshly made paella with saffron, mixed fresh fish and shellfish, and also paella valenciana which is a combination of rice, chicken, chorizo, and seafood.

10. The Corinthian Club
Ingram Street

Arguably one of Glasgow’s finest venues offering impressive settings across five floors,

The weekday ‘steak date’ is our one to have. So grab your other half or a pal and indulge in an 8oz steak with cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and hand cut fries, all washed down with a bottle of house wine for an impressive £29.95 per couple.

When Mother’s Day rolls around, the restaurant offers one of the best and most sought-after afternoon tea experiences in the city.

11. Chelsea Market
Argyle Street

Chelsea Market is one of the latest additions to the vibrant and up-and-coming Finnieston restaurant scene.

12. Italian Caffè
Albion Street

The enoteca caffe is different to anything that’s come before it in Glasgow. Enotecas have come along way since first being established in classical Rome where folk would stop and enjoy a glass of wine to pass time. With the same idea in mind, this restaurant offers an excellent combination of over 34 wines and dozens of small, mouthwatering tapas-style plates.

13. Yadgar
Calder Street

If you’re looking for traditional and authentic home-cooked Pakistani food, Yadgar is definitely the place to go. Unlike many other of the restaurants in this list, it’s not all about fancy decor. There’s so much more than meets the eye with this hidden and underrated gem. The mixed kebab, tandoori fish, and chicken biryani are our favourites and there are plenty of moreish desserts on offer too.

14. Sapporo Teppanyaki
Ingram Street

Undoubtedly one of our favourites, Sapporo is definitely not ordinary as each table comes with its own built-in ‘kitchen’ where thrilling teppanyaki performances are put on by the friendly and comedic chefs as they prepare some of the most tasty Japanese dishes available in the city. The salmon teriyaki is one dish definitely not to be missed.

15. KoolBa
Candleriggs

Explore the best of Persian cuisine just a stone’s throw away from the centre of the city and get your chops around the BBQ shashlik lamb fillet, panir and sabzi (vegetables and cheese), and kofta kebab. What sets this eatery apart from other restaurants in Glasgow is that the staff personally source an expansive wine and beer list that perfectly complements the dishes.

16. Amber Regent
West Regent Street

Having just reopened after a major revamp, it’s the starters here that get us going; crispy prawns with toasted sesame sauce, barbecued spare ribs, succulent chicken satay, and crispy duck rolls with hoisin sauce are just a few nibbles to get you revved-up for the main course offering. We’ve been told the pork belly meat with crispy skin is heaven. See you there!

17. The Parlour

Food fashions come and go, but Rogano has always stood by its luxurious menu since opening way back in the ‘30s. Offering up the finest fish and seafood - from salmon, langoustines, scallops, lobster, halibut and oysters - the restaurant’s wine list compliments each dish perfectly. Naturally, seafood is best served with white, so the majority of wine is white and from French vineyards.

19. Red Onion
West Campbell Street

The award-winning venue came to be after chef and patron John Quigley’s career saw him cook for celebs such as Bryan Adams, Tina Turner and Guns n Roses, before setting his roots down in Scotland’s biggest (and best) city in 2005, bringing us to-die-for Scottish cookery, all with a modern twist. The trio of Scottish bon bons and Innis and Gunn braised blade of beef with all the trimmings are our top picks.

20. Mussel Inn
Hope Street

One of city’s top restaurants serves up fresh dishes all day long with top-quality ingredients, mostly from Scottish waters. Expertly and imaginatively prepared by the chefs it’s centrally-located on Hope Street and strives to make sure customers don’t break the bank.

21. Chaophraya

Formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, Glaswegian diners can now escape city life for a culinary experience with a difference. The massaman lamb curry and sirloin steak with panang sauce are our main choices here. Set over four floors, the restaurant even has an outside area for when the sun chooses to beam down on Glasgow, making it one of the top al fresco dining spots in the city over the summer.
