PLANS have been submitted to turn an empty retail unit into a restaurant in Pollokshields.

City planners have been asked to given the proposal on Maxwell Road the green light.

It is hoped that the retail unit on the corner of Maxwell Road and Keir Street can be turned into a 'quality' restaurant and take-away.

A planning statement states: "The proposed development will see the change of use of a vacant retail store into a small quality restaurant/takeaway.

"As the area has a high preponderance of retail units the loss of this unit and the creation of a class three restaurant will have no discernible impact on the street.

"Historically this part of Pollokshields has been home to a large ethnic population and the range of uses in the commercial premises along the street are symptomatic of that, as are the late opening hours which most of the shops currently enjoy.

"There has always been an evening and late night economy and associated activities, so the introduction of this use will have no impact on the amenity of the area and the new use, by animating this corner will contribute to the ambience of the area and improve safety and security by virtue of the presence of people enjoying the new dining experience."

A decision on the plans is expected in June.
