LAUGHTER lines, 'crow's feet', creases - whatever you want to call them, the delicate area of skin around the eyes is usually one of the first to show up those early signs of ageing.

As a result, the skincare market is overflowing with creams, gels and serums that promise to smooth out the appearance of wrinkles around the eye to restore that youthful look.

This latest offering from Elemis comes in a 15ml bottle - and 15ml will go a long way. Recommended application is two drops morning and evening, but the pump releases a tiny amount with each squeeze so one bottle could easily last at least three months.

It promises to "target fine lines and wrinkles around the delicate eye area" and to help "smooth and firm" the skin.

Key ingredients including Padina Pavonica (a brown algae extract) and Blue Flower Linseed are touted for their toning and firming properties, and Elemis claim the serum will deliver "exceptional moisturisation" without "overloading" the skin.

It is certainly true that the serum is light and weightless, and definitely not greasy. It soaks in almost instantly.

However, I'm not sure that that is the texture most customers are after in an eye treatment. Serums are fine on the face - especially the grease-prone T-zone in those of us with oilier complexions - but for my money, I prefer something a bit richer around the eye. A cream feels more nourishing.

But if you are after something lighter that goes a long way, this might be the eye solution for you.
