the Evening Times continues to shine the spotlight on another of the dozens of new businesses determined to succeed.

They are the future for Glasgow and the west of Scotland's economy and are working hard to achieve success as the UK starts to recover from economic hardship. Many new businesses are beginning to take off and this column aims to offer advice for potential start-ups.

Each company will answer the same questions about their business and their answers will appear each Wednesday.

This week we talk to Nameloop's chief executive officer John Wilmot, right, and chief technology officer Craig Bartholemew

WHAT DOES YOUR

BUSINESS DO?

Nameloop is a mobile and web app that allows you to share your contact information safely and securely with your contacts.

We're creating a world where people simply update their own information and share it, rather than being responsible for everyone else's info.

Any time your contact info changes, if you change job, move house, set up a new Skype, change your phone number, whatever it is, update your Nameloop account and the change is pushed to your contacts.

We have a strong privacy focus so users set up different groups, or 'Loops' as we call them, to share different info with different people.

After all, it's probably not appropriate to share where you live with business contacts, for example.

You can download the app for free from the App Store and Play Store and also have a Web App at nameloop.com.

HOW DID YOU

GET STARTED?

We were fortunate enough to get some early stage investment, which allowed us to operate with full autonomy from day one in our own office at 200 St Vincent Street.

This provided a base for us to develop the product.

All in, we had nine people working on the product early on and have gone through months of beta testing to get the product ready for public release.

WHAT IS YOUR

BACKGROUND?

John has a 2.1 honours Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University of Glasgow and then went on to obtain his Chartered Accountancy qualification from ICAS.

He started his career in audit then moving into a tough time in M&A before setting up his first business, Bourne (now BiteDA) and selling it to Next Fifteen Communications Plc in 2011.

Craig has a 15-year background in software development, starting in early e-commerce systems progressing to world class enterprise grade software solutions.

WHAT IS YOUR TOP TIP?

Craig -You'll never know everything but you'll always be able to find someone that has the answers you need.

John - When I set up the US legal trading entity for Bourne, I quickly realised that finding the right people was important.

We are all limited by our own ability in some way - always look to find people who know how and have been there so you can make things easier.

You quickly find out that nothing has to be difficult that way.

WHERE DO YOU PLAN YOUR BUSINESS TO BE IN FIVE YEARS' TIME?

We're setting out to become The Contacts Network.

So if Facebook is seen as The Social Network, then we are the network that people use to manage and share contact information.

Because that's our only focus, we do it in the best and most efficient way possible for the user so our goal is to own the global market for this space.

Part of our vision is to connect people to companies, so when you move house, for example, just update Nameloop and the change will push to all the companies you that have your address, taking the hassle out of phoning round them all.
