Who are you?
Bonnie Lawson-Brown

What does your business do?
We have designed a unique innovative Bra using Bamboo Fibre Fabric. Working with BeYonder, a small batch manufacturing unit based in Glasgow, we are currently sourcing ethical, sustainable and natural fabric.

Where are you based?
Glasgow Entrepreneurial Spark Powered by Royal Bank of Scotland Glasgow Hatchery.

How did you get started?
I began by drawing a new design of Bra then developed basic prototypes called my ‘Frankenstein’ design. In August 2016, I joined the Entrepreneurial Spark business accelerator programme to access support and advice to grow and scale my initial idea.

What is your background?
As a military wife for 20 years, I travelled around the world with my husband and two children.

In 2011, we moved to Edinburgh and I started working in fashion retail before studying an Open University degree in retail. During my studies, I hit upon an idea for a shopping app so started my first journey as an entrepreneur as the founder of Silver IMP Ltd, a tech startup.

I ran the company in R&D mode for four years gaining valuable IP and business experience. Since then, I have stepped down as CEO allowing me to fully focus on The Bonnie Bra Company. I have gone from building apps to building bras!

What is your top tip?
I get up every morning with a sense of purpose, passion and a plan to make the most of every minute of that day.

How long has your business been running?
The business officially started trading in May 2016 but working smart for the last three months has accelerated the company considerably.

Has anyone helped you get started and how?
Working with an Enabler at Entrepreneurial Spark has given me the confidence I need to take my business to the next level.

The support I receive from my Enabler is continuous but the Hatchery is also a great environment for bouncing ideas off fellow Chiclets as their feedback is key.

I’ve also been supported by my husband as well as friends and family.

Where do you plan your business to be in five years’ time?
I intend for the Bonnie Bra to become a global brand positioned as the bra that women choose when they are looking for elegant support.
