It’s not often that you leave the hairdressers with a load of new-found hair knowledge but when your stylist is the senior creative director of Vidal Sassoon, it’s just what you can expect.

I visited the Glasgow’s Sassoon salon which is tucked away in the shiney Princes Square.

The salon itself is just as you would expect – minimalist, stylish and bloody massive.

Sharz Din, my stylist, has been working in the industry for over 20 years but time hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm for hair and everything associated with it.

He approached my sad looking mop with a passion that I would struggle to muster on a good day.

Having spent a fair amount on my colour a few months prior, there wasn’t much to be done except a quick tidy and fringe trim but he was more than happy to oblige.

After a wash with only the best Sassoon products, my hair already felt and looked more alive.

Before giving me the chop, Sharz applied some Sassoon Professional Heat Shape, to protect against damage caused by styling products, and Illuminating Oil, to protect my colour.

My fears over awkward hairdresser chat were quickly disbanded after he got started and put me right at ease.

The visit was more like an experience than a bog standard trip to the hairdresser, as he made sure I could see and understand every move he made and talked me through how to do the most basic of things including drying my hair and holding a curling wand properly (a skill which I am still working on).

During our conversation I learned more hair facts than I could probably ever need, what it takes to become of the top guys in Sassoon and, most mind blowingly, how haircuts are inspired by architecture. Not just any architecture, Sharz gets his inspiration right here in Glasgow.

After Sharz has worked his magic, my hair has returned to its natural puffy state, only the split ends are gone and it smells amazing.

I walked into the salon quite nervous about it possibly being a bit too posh for a girl like me but left feeling quite the opposite.

It might be the salon of one of most famous hairstylists of all time, but the staff are laid back and welcoming.

Sassoon Glasgow can be found in Princes Square.

5 stars.
