Who are you?

My name is Chris Lawlor, I am 22 years old and Founder of Lawlor Technologies Ltd.

I graduated from the University of Strathclyde last year with a degree in Computer Science, and I am now using my skills learned there to build products for my business.

Having technical knowledge comes in very handy when creating a business, I have found, as a lot is done online nowadays, not to mention the use of tools to increase productivity and efficiency.

What does your business do?

Lawlor Technologies specialises in building state of the art applications to be used across the public sector.

This involves bringing innovative ideas to life, bridging the gap between services and technology, and in turn supplying cost efficient solutions. we recently released the first part of our product ‘Yep’ called Yep jobs.

Yep Jobs is a job search website for young adults in the UK.

Where are you based?

I currently have my own office space at home as the business is not yet in a state where it needs its own dedicated area.

This also keeps costs down and allows me to put more money into my products. i use a ‘virtual office’ in Bath Street that you can send mail to, but gets redirected to my home in motherwell – which is pretty cool.

How did you get started?
In my final year of university, I built a mobile app to help young adults transition into the workplace smoothly, and this was received well by the client I was working with.

Lecturers and those in the market encouraged me to take the app forward and commercialise it. The idea was to build a business around this, and make this my first in a line products.

What is your background?

I graduated with a BSC honors degree in Computer Science last year.
while studying in university, I owned a small mobile disco business, that involved djing at parties such as 18ths, 21sts, 50ths and so on, which helped fund my way through university.

I have had an interest in art & design ever since i was young, which helps with designing how an app should look to product branding.

What is your top tip?

Time is everything. You can do anything if you put in the time.

Has anyone helped you get started and how?

The enterprise support at the University of Strathclyde has shown great support in getting me from graduate to entrepreneur over the last year and they are continuing to help me moving forward.

Where do you plan your business to be in five years time?

My main focus at the moment is Yep, the mobile app.

It is the driving force of the business currently and will hopefully pave the way for more products in the near future.

When it is released later in the year, I will be selling licenses to career help services and the education sector in the UK.
