IT sounds quite an exaggeration to say a beauty product can change your life but that's exactly what Marie Reynolds believes.

The 62-year-old, who only occasionally wore lipstick and mascara and suffered from outbreaks of adult acne, says her appearance changed dramatically and her confidence was given a real boost after a chance visit to the BareMinerals boutique on Buchanan Street, Glasgow.

"I had been at the hairdresser and was walking along Buchanan Street when I saw the shop," she remembers.

"I didn't really wear makeup, I had tried all sorts of things over the years but nothing seemed to work for me and whatever I bought would end up lying in a drawer.

"BareMinerals was different. It wasn't overwhelming when I walked in and the girls were just so natural.

"I explained that my skin was really bad and if I applied makeup it made it look worse. The girls at BareMinerals said to take one step at a time and start with my skin before I even looked at makeup.

"Now I know what works for me and what irritates my skin. There are no chemicals in BareMinerals products."

After her first visit to the shop not long after it opened in December 2012, Marie discovered the collection of skincare and makeup, including the multi-award-winning Original Foundation SPF15 that marks its, and the brand's, 20th anniversary, this month.

She has become one of the most loyal customers of the Glasgow boutique, popping in every few weeks to pick up hints and tips and stock up on her favourite products.

Marie says her daily regime, using products such as the Active Cell Renewal Night Serum and Pure Transformation Day Treatment as well as the Original Foundation have left her skin glowing.

"It's easy to do all the tricks I have learned in the shop," she smiles. "Like applying mascara but using a different colour on the outside at the ends - such as black with jade green - for a different look when I'm going out at night.

"And always use the brushes, they make all the difference. You couldn't achieve the polished, finished look without them."

The information systems worker has even introduced her friends to the brand and laughs when he says how how her colleagues at work have all commented in the change in her appearance.

"I work in an office that is mainly full of men and they said there had been a softening of my skin tone since I started using BareMinerals and my skin looked energised," she says.

"If you were to ask me the effect using BareMinerals has I'd say it is like wearing new pyjamas every day," she giggles. "It's like clean sheets on a bed or a new outfit every day.

"If my hair isn't sitting the way I want it to when I'm getting ready in the morning, once I put on BareMinerals I think, 'It doesn't matter, I feel great.'"

Marie's word of mouth recommendations are the perfect example of how the brand, that is official sponsor of this year's Scottish Fashion Awards, grew after it was set up in the US by Leslie Blodgett and went on to become one of the beauty world's biggest success stories.

She trail blazed a new age of direct selling, pioneered unconventional marketing tactics, and invented the idea of community with her irrefutable bond with women around the globe.

Leslie launched the brand in San Francisco, and then sold it on QVC in 1997 with the simple purpose to educate women about BareMinerals and its untraditional approach to bare-skin beauty.

Undaunted by the obstacle of selling foundation on TV, her passionate approach and authenticity resonated with women looking for healthy makeup alternatives.

A makeup revolution was born.
