An award-winning online fashion brand set up by two Glaswegians has come home this week to showcase its range.

Wear Eponymous gives a platform to up-and-coming independent designers, offering high-quality womanswear, menswear and accessories from names such as Anya Sushko, Elizabeth Martin and city-based G69. And thanks to a pop-up shop at Princes Square, they are reaching a new audience.

The business was set-up by make-up artist Elaine Burns, 35, and website designer Alan Armitage, 38, who spotted a gap in the market.

“We were both working in the fashion business and we could see there was an immense amount of fresh talent and new brands out there,” said Elaine. “But often they were fighting to be seen in crowded marketplaces, or struggling to gain traction with their own websites.

“We knew there was a perfect opportunity to create a community for accessible premium brands to be discovered through us, online and through pop-up events like this one at Princes Square.”

The pair worked hard for two years to get their brand off the ground in the UK, and since then it has gone from strength to strength, winning former Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis’ prestigious Small Business Sunday award in September. Elaine and Alan now hope to increase their portfolio of brands and move into the international market.

But for now, the duo is relishing the opportunity to show off their collections in Glasgow – and chat to city shoppers.

“Glaswegians are known for their style and love of strong design,” explained Elaine. “People travel from all over the world to visit Glasgow. We have so many iconic brands and flagship stores here – our home town has such a buzz.”

But don’t delay if you want to see what Wear Eponymous has to offer - the Glasgow pop-up store is in Princes Square until Friday.
