Most of us are looking for ways to incorporate more exercise into our daily routine. But before rushing out to join a gym, give some thought to the easiest option of all – walking to work.

The Scottish Government’s #walktaework campaign encourages people to do just that. From boosting concentration to making you healthier and happier, being more active improves your concentration and your general well-being. Going on foot is better for the environment, and it saves you money too. What’s not to like?

And getting your walking shoes on doesn’t mean you can’t look good. With this in mind we’ve teamed up with personal stylist, Rachel Lawler, who work at Debenhams at Silverburn, to offer some top tips on staying stylish on foot, come rain or shine.

It’s all in the coat

Living in Glasgow we’re all familiar with varied weather - that means investing in a classic trench coat is a must. The mac is a staple in any wardrobe – for men and women - and a versatile fashion must-have. There’s plenty of different styles, and ones to suit every look and wallet. Even better, it’s an ideal throw on for your weekend attire too.

Be kind to your feet

The right footwear will do your walk to work wonders. You don’t have to have the latest hiking boots or clunky white trainers either - opt for a sleek, black sneaker which will subtly blend into your outfit of choice for the day. Stay away from the flat pumps and skyscraper heels.

Bag of tricks

Big bags never go out of fashion so they’re your perfect partner for the walk. Invest in an oversized tote that will take all your bits and bobs and means you can leave the handbag at home. Top tip: take a canvas bag in your tote to throw your walking shoes into when you arrive at the office.

Beautiful brollies

Stylish brollies are a must this season and they’ll keep you dry and glamorous on your walk to the office. Vintage and animal designs are particularly on trend this season, but, of course, you can’t go wrong with a simple statement black brolly - every girl’s handbag LBD.
