If ever a month was made for battening down the hatches, it’s January. The festivities are over and the days are short – as is cash, since you’ve spent it all at Christmas. What with all that socialising in December, January is all about exerting minimum effort – in other words, staying in and watching the box sets you got as presents over Christmas.

And once you’ve shut the front door, there’s nothing like the feeling of changing out of those work clothes into something altogether more comfortable. It was Coco Chanel who first made pyjamas the epitome of style, and these days loungewear and leisure clothes are bigger business than ever before. Most high street stores and brands now stock full ranges of pyjamas, onesies, vest tops, slouch trousers and slippers.

Which means snuggling up on the sofa on a cold January night has never been more of a fashion statement. Not that you have to try too hard, of course - remember, it's all about feeling warm and relaxed. And from satin and silk to cosy cotton, there’s something out there for every age and wallet.

So get out of that suit, get into your onesie, make yourself a hot chocolate and chill – it’s what January is all about.
