So, how are those new years' resolutions working out? Still looking to lose some of those extra pounds and get a bit fitter? Apparently almost 20 per cent of all gym members join up in January - though it is unclear what proportion of them are still going regularly in December.
Of course, you don’t need to join a gym to keep fit – getting out for a good walk, taking a run round the local park, cycling or even doing a fitness DVD in the front room can burn just as many calories.
The main issue for many is motivation – how do you keep it up in dreary January? Well, one way is to make sure you look the part. And now that the high street is competing with the big sports brands, it turns out you don’t have to spend a fortune. The big supermarkets also stock very reasonably priced fitness gear such as leggings, crop tops and hoodies.
No matter what activity you’re doing, the most important thing is comfort, so buy clothes that have room for vigorous movement. If you’re going to be doing high-impact exercise, light, breathable materials that will absorb perspiration and keep you dry are best. And a hoodie never goes wrong at this time of the year.
With this in mind, why not treat yourself to some new fitness gear? It won’t break the bank – and it might be just what you need to get that resolution back on track.
