Eddie Redmayne, Sam Smith and Daisy Ridley have added a touch of British glamour to the Oscars red carpet.
Eddie, who is nominated for best actor for The Danish Girl, looked dapper in a black velvet tux as he held the arm of his pregnant wife Hannah Bagshawe, who glowed in a black dress with gold embellishment.

Sam Smith chose a black suit that highlighted his trim figure and bucked the clean-shaven trend for a designer beard. Sam will be performing his Oscar-nominated hit Writing’s On The Wall from Bond flick Spectre during the ceremony.

Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley made her debut at the Oscars in slinky couture Chanel. Channelling her character Rey, Daisy had her hair in a sleek up-do that showed off the dress’s heavy beading and her gorgeous diamond earrings.

Michael Fassbender left girlfriend Alicia Vikander to her own devices on the red carpet, taking his father Josef as his date for the night. German dad Josef is the one we can thank for Michael’s fantastic mixed heritage with Irish that’s responsible for those dreamy eyes and ginger beard. He’ll be cheering as his son vies for best actor for Steve Jobs.

Putting the Oscars diversity row behind her, Charlotte Rampling sparkled in a metallic patterned dress with spiky beading on her chest and sleeves. She’ll be hoping her silver gown leads to gold as she is in contention for best actress for 45 Years.

The organisers were likely taking a deep sign of relief that Sacha Baron Cohen had decided not to come to the Oscars as his Grimsby character Nobby Butcher (we’ll never be able to get the image of him in his pants at the premiere out our heads). Sacha arrived with wife Isla Fisher, whose smile seemed to suggest she was happy he was fully dressed too.

Superman star Henry Cavill looked dashing in his velvet suit. He’ll be zooming up on stage to present an award later.
