SHE is only 21, but Glasgow style queen Jessie Doherty is already a burlesque dancer, an events guru and has started a clothes business with her mum, Annie.

RACHEL LOXTON asked West End resident Jessie – whose stage name is Kim Khaos – to share her three favourite looks and her style secrets.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

"I'm the events consultant for Virginia Gallery and a retail assistant for Luke and Jack in the Merchant City.

"I'm also a burlesque performer, I've been doing that for about a year now.

"I wear all my own costumes. I've been making my own dresses since I was 15."

HOW DID YOU GET INTO BURLESQUE?

"I was always fascinated with the Dita von Teese notion of glamour so I organised a big show in the Soundhaus.

"I just kept putting on events and when I came to the Virginia Gallery they were so supportive and urged me to do what I wanted.

"I told Dolly Tartan, who is like my burlesque mother, I wanted to start performing and we did a double act on my 20th birthday last year."

DO YOU GET NERVOUS?

"Your first time is scary. I'm a different kind of performer, everything is quite tongue in cheek.

"There are some performers out there like Vicky Butterfly who are so visually astounding.

"It's a thriving scene, so it's a privilege to work in Glasgow. There are often shows at Spangled Cabaret in the Flying Duck.

"I'm looking forward to my Glasgow show The Calm Before the Khaos, in Virginia Galleries in July."

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

"I want to say vintage Goth because I love a black dress but I'd say my style is quite eclectic.

"I make a lot of my own clothes because my mum runs a sewing cafe, the Real Cafe, in the West End. I like working with vintage patterns and nice fitted shapes and I also love the 1950s circle dresses."

WHERE DO YOU BUY CLOTHES?

"I like wearing pieces by independent designers. I can't afford couture but I'd rather wear T-shirts from brands like Badcop Badcop because I know someone has painstakingly made it.

"I really like going to the vintage fair Granny Would be Proud, too, because my mum and I sell some jewellery there.

"We own a small business called Betty Bordello. It's very kitsch.

"I love raiding charity shops too. You feel like you're finding real treasures."

WHAT ITEM OF CLOTHING CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?

"I treated myself to a black and pink Alexander McQueen scarf for my 18th birthday. It goes with everything."

WHAT'S YOUR MAKE-UP ROUTINE?

"I use primer then Rimmel foundation, then it's just powder.

"I do my winged eyeliner and then mascara and then use red lipstick.

"And I love animal tattoos."

WHO IS YOUR INSPIRATION?

"My mum, Annie. She always instilled in me to be myself and insisted I shouldn't change for anyone.

"I thought I wasn't pretty and I was really insecure when I was growing up.

"She comes to all my shows and supports me."
