CAT Cubie admits she finds it hard to grow up when it comes to style.

The 32-year-old TV presenter and Evening Times columnist says she has, "Peter Pan syndrome," because of her love of the clothes and make-up she wore when she was younger.

But the star is now ready for a more sophisticated look.

We joined Cat as she was given the chance to try out three on-trend make-up looks: a classic red lip, a smokey eye, and full-on colour, at Debenhams in Silverburn.

The former weather presenter, who writes an online blog for the Evening Times about her life in Glasgow, said: "As a teenager I did the whole blue eyeshadow thing, right up to my eyebrows.

"And there's some photos of me when I was 14 where I have purple eyelids and silver above it.

"I've always been interested in make-up, even when I was younger.

"My niece Sia, who is seven now, was really into it - even when she was three - and I think she gets it from me."

As well as the colourful experimenting from her teenage years, Edinburgh-born Cat has always liked using eyeliner.

She said: "I've certainly been doing the eye flicks with the eye liner for years.

"Recently I've been trying to get away from that and do smokey eyes rather than the 60s flick.

"But it's so tempting to do that."

She added: "I had a bit of Peter Pan syndrome I think and now I enjoy feeling a bit more polished when I get dressed well instead of dressing like a teenager...and now I want a grown up smokey eye.

"I think my mum's delighted because I've grown up a wee bit in the way I dress."

Despite attending Glasgow's most glitziest events, Cat says she's found the secret to keeping her skin glowing - even if she's not had eight hours sleep.

"I've used the same face wash, Clean and Clear, since I was 14," she said.

"I take my make-up off using make-up wipes. I never go to bed with my make-up on. I do use a serum and an Olay moisturiser.

"And I try and do a face mask once a week. I'm not high maintenance with my beauty regime but I do try and look after my skin by drinking lots of water."

Cat's favourite beauty product is lipstick.

She says she is "as much into lipstick as I am shoes".

Her favourite is an electric pink called Candy Yum Yum by MAC, but she also loves Ruby Woo also by the brand.

"I genuinely think you can never have enough colours," she said. When I went to the Scottish Fashion Awards last year in Glasgow I wore Candy Yum Yum.

"It's the kind of lipstick that everyone comments on."

For her base Cat tries to steer clear of foundation and opts for a BB cream by Bourgeois.

She uses a No7 bronzer and usually sticks to brown or grey eyeshadow.

She said: "At the recent Big Hearted Scot event, which I presented, I went for gold sparkly eyeshadow from my Bobbi Brown palette. I'm lucky that over the years I've had my make-up done by professional make-up artists for TV and for photoshoots, so I think I've learned a few tips that way but I also really like doing it myself."

Cat's tips for an expertly applied face include not wiping away the extra mascara that gathers on your wand by applying it to your eyelashes and brushing it into place.

She added: "That way you'll never waste mascara. I also learned to brush foundation onto eyelids before you put on eye make-up to keep it in place."

Although Cat is low maintenance when it comes to beauty, she does pay attention to careful grooming.

She said: "Being fair I do dye my eyebrows and my lashes. I like that darker look and it's really popular right now. You can feel like you don't have to wear any make-up."

HOLLYWOOD RED LIP

Rhona Ferguson, make-up artist with Bobbi Brown, said: "This is such an effortless look and it's very classic.

"I created a lovely eye flick and gave her a really full red lip with our lipstick.

"Beforehand I used our soothing cleansing oil and hydrating face tonic to prep her skin.

"And on the base I used our Longwear Compact Foundation."

SMOKEY EYES

Justine McPherson, make-up artist with Giorgio Armani, said: "Getting this look is all to do with the skin prep.

"I used our serum and primer before using our luminous silk concealer.

"To get the eyes right you have to smudge the eyeshadow and don't be afraid to make it messy.

"Keep the lips nude for this look to work."

Fouzia Ali, make-up artist with Urban Decay, said: "The colours around the eyes and the glitter is what makes this look stand out.

"I used an anti-ageing primer on Cat's skin to make everything stay in place.

"To get the glitter I used the 24/7 Glide On pencil in Goldmine.

"This is definitely the kind of make-up you'd wear to a big party."

CAT'S VERDICT:

"I enjoyed trying out all the looks. The Urban Decay look is not what I would have ever gone for but I think it's quite rock and roll and it's been fun to try.

"I really love the Bobbi Brown eye palette which looks really understated and chic.

"The Armani smokey eye is really what I've been trying to do, so I'll definitely be trying this again.

"Hopefully it will help me get out of my beauty rut."
