THE wonders of the deep are the inspiration for the latest range of brightly coloured accessories to bring a summery feel to your home.

According to Isabelle Greenwood, the interiors and home furnishings buyer for Sterling, the must-have colour all our living spaces could use an injection of this year is Pantone's aquamarine.

"It's quite an airy blue and has a dreamy feel, it's cool, calming and ethereal," she says, predicting the must-have interiors styles for 2015 that are echoing catwalk trends.

"Denim is massive in fashion and also in interiors. Blue is quite a restful colour and it acts as a stress reducer.

"Alternatively, scuba blue is a new term that's being used for a more invigorating and livelier shade, reminiscent of a tropical ocean, and takes us off to a fantasy world."

The constancy of the sky and the sea around us is one of the reasons we feel so comfortable with blue, says Isabelle. It can also breathe new life into dark and dull spaces.

"We have created an under the sea look with some gold added to glitz it up a wee bit," says Isabelle.

"We have tried to take it away from the tackiness of a seaside resort gift shop and put it in with some gold accessories, and a lot of glass. There are all sorts of shades of blue glass vases which are quite smart and they have that watery, glazed look."

She adds: "The top colour this year for Dulux top is Sea Urchin, which again mixes aqua and deeper shades of blue."

A coral reef theme brings an old fashioned shade bang up to date, accented with copper.

"Metallics are massive, so anything with platinum, silver and gold will hit the mark but copper is particularly popular," says Isabelle.

"We have mixed it with coral, another big colour this year on the catwalk. People want a bright summery colour and this is a wee change from pink and it's not as out there as yellow or orange.

"To make the coral look less old ladyish we've made it very geometric and quite Scandinavian with a slight industrial edge. So there are lots of metals and black wrought iron in grid shapes in store for lanterns and candle holders."

If you already have a black leather sofa and white walls at home, a pop of coral cushions and copper accents will give your room a completely new look.

"It moves away from black and white which in the past would maybe have been mixed with red and been a wee bit too obvious. This is a bit more subtle and quite smart," says Isabelle.

Meanwhile, a clean palette of white and glacier grey can be brightened up with a bold splash of hot pink. It feels as cooling and refreshing as a breeze on a summer's day, according to Isabelle.

Tightly pack a matte white vase with fake flowers for a burst of colour while the grey and white background is timeless and understated.

For those who prefer a neutral palette the key is textures.

Add basket weaves, mohair, suede, tweed, rattan, marble, hessian and linen to add layered to a room and take away the flatness of magnolia walls and a plain wooden floor.

Driftwood lanterns and woollen throws warm up the look with tactile accessories.

For a look that never goes out of fashion, the timeless elegance of a gentlemen's club can be re-created with weathered woods, battered tan leather sofas and big trophy vases.

"I would call this dark and handsome, it's quite a Ralph Lauren look. It's rich with a patina of old money, that old country club tradition," comments Isabelle.

"This one won't date and it's quite easy to live with if you have a brown leather sofa, as so many people in the UK seem to have. This is a look you could evoke quite easily and take it away from the mundane. It can look quite classy.

"It would be lovely in an old house with high ceilings."
