The recent sunny weather in Glasgow felt like an announcement: spring is finally here.

And in terms of fashion, that means ditching the dark polo necks and thick black tights in favour of lighter, brighter items that inject colour and freshness into your wardrobe.

The high street is currently brimming with this season's latest trends and offer something for everyone, regardless of body shape, age or budget. So now is the perfect time to get out there and see what's on offer.

One of this season's biggest trends is clashing floral prints - and surely nothing screams "spring" more than flowers. This look is all about having fun with the clothes, using patterns, colours and textures to compliment each different garment in the ensemble. But don't go over the top - best to draw out one element of an outfit - such as a particular colour of flower - and bring it out in the other pieces.

Elsewhere on the catwalk, the 1990s remain big news. Thankfully, shellsuits aren't back - but slogan t-shirts, ripped jeans and chunky jewellery certainly are.

And the 90s is not the only decade currently influencing fashion - everyone from Chanel to Victoria Beckham has been lapping up the 1970s in their collections. The high street has picked up on this trend in a big way, with Aztec prints currently making window displays in many shops.

Which brings us to another remnant of the 70s - culottes. At first thought they might seem tough for many people to pull off, but teamed with some lovely wedges this is a chic and easy to wear look that works for the office and can easily be dressed up for the evening.

They say denim never goes out of fashion and this year that holds especially true, with dresses, skirts, dungarees and jackets all made of the stuff. Simple shift dresses can be paired with statement jewellery and those 1980s staples, jelly shoes, for a laid-back spring look.

No matter which trend you are looking to choose from the easiest way to update your look is simply to add a splash of colour. Blacks and greys should be put back in the wardrobe in favour of bright and light.

Yellow is particularly big this season in all its hues, from pastel light to rich, burnt shades, and can be seen in everything to jackets to evening dresses and the new-style long waistcoat. Different shades of blue - from baby to royal - also features heavily this spring, while warm reds and pinks of every hue are still big from last year.

As far as shoes are concerned, slim, demure flats are everywhere, while high-top gladiator-style sandals, many with intricate lacing arrangements, are also en vogue. And, let's be honest, when the sun shines, espadrilles and cork wedges never go out of fashion.

We've teamed-up with the Glasgow Fort to bring you some complete looks using the trends discussed above. The centre, which is just off junction 10 of the M8, has 20 women's fashion stores including River Island, Oasis, Miss Selfridge, Topshop, Zara, TK Maxx and New Look.

So, get inspired and spring into action.
