A MOTHER'S Day treat for Eileen Hyland was voted a cut above.

The 56-year-old from Airdrie was treated to an afternoon of pampering at Rainbow Room's Buchanan Street salon with her 22-year-old daughter Victoria.

After a head massage and a hair treatment, the retired teacher got a whole new look with colour and a blow dry, thanks to salon director Joy McQuillan.

"It has been a wonderful day out, we have absolutely loved it," says Eileen. "It was great to get a chance to try out a new style, my hair looks fantastic."

It was a rare treat for the mother and daughter to get a chance to spend some time together, and the perfect Mother's Day indulgence for Aileen, who also has another daughter Jennifer.

British Salon Stylist of the Year for the past two years, Joy gave Eileen and Victoria very different version of the current midi style that is bang on trend.

"I trimmed Eileen's hair and gave her a nice, shiny colour; a dark, chocolate brown," says Joy.

"It's a midi length, which is trending just now. I cut it into a really nice shape, it's quite blunt which makes it easier to manage. I cut it up to the chin, which lifted up Eileen's face.

"When she's drying it she can style it full, for a change I just put a loose wave through it to create a bit of movement, using a GHD wand. That gave it a bit of edge.

"It's a very flattering shape and style."

Eileen had to be convinced about cutting her hair shorter than usual, but she was delighted with the results.

Meanwhile, Joy wanted to give Victoria a different look but based on the same midi style.

"I did something slightly more up to date than with Victoria because when you're 22 you can pull off anything," she smiles.

"She normally wears her hair straight and flat. I cut Victoria's hair to midi length, but slightly longer. It is really glamorous, full and bouncy and very easy to style with big Velcro rollers.

"She's all ready to go out for lunch or for dinner."
