WE could all do with a helping hand to guide us through the maze of shopping mayhem in the lead up to Christmas.

That's the job of Rob Parr, an expert in the world of toys and manager of the Glasgow branch of The Entertainer.

If you can't tell the difference between Disney Frozen Snow Glow Elsa and Sparkle Doll, or need help tracking down a Transformers Chomp & Stomp Grimlock, he's your man.

After the super sales of Black Friday weekend, it is all hands on deck as the store, in Buchanan Galleries, copes with the Christmas rush.

What are this year's big sellers?

Disney Frozen toys are flying off the shelves, after the success of the film, from dolls to dressing up outfits.

Another big film tie-in is the Transformers Age of Extinction Chomp & Stomp Grimlock.

The dinobot is based on the fearsome character from the Transformers Age of Extinction film.

Starting off as a robot warrior with a sword, it quickly changes into a T-rex with chomping jaw and light-up eyes.

It comes with an Optimus Prime mini figure.

"There are a lot of interactive toys this year - really huge are the Zoomer Dalmation and Zoomer Boomer Dino," says Rob.

"They're interactive pet type toys and react to gestures and voice commands.

"It's the age of the iPad for a lot of kids so toys have to catch up with that trend."

My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll loves to chat.

Ask her a question - she knows a lot about geography, sport and science, and can play games and tell stories.

"Connect My Friend Cayla to a tablet, ask her any questions and she'll help you find the answers to do homework," says Rob.

"It makes a toy quite relevant in the modern age and it's educational too.

"There are also plenty of toys to keep kids on the move. Spin the turntable on Bop It! Beats Game, featuring music by famous artists and challenging levels.

"You have to listen to the commands, it's a bit like Simon Says," explains Rob.

"You have to do what it tells you to do to continue the game.

"It's all about the music so to continue to get the song to play you've got to follow the actions."

A classic gets a makeover in the shape of Twister Dance, a colour-matching game.

Play music through the speaker that comes with it and match your feet with the lights on the panels on the floor.

Children's versions of the smart watches by Apple and Samsung are available in the shape of the Vtech Kidizoom Smart Watch, which comes with an intuitive touch screen, a built-in camera and games.

Pets come to life too, in the new interactive world.

"Lucy the Puppy is an interactive dog. She responds to voice commands from the child, so when she is asked to follow she will, ask her for a paw and she'll sit," says Rob.

"Zoomer Boomer Interactive Dino has sensors so he can recognise his surroundings.

"If you place him on a table he'll know where the edge of the table is.

"If you pat him or put your hand in front of him he'll understand the gesture, he'll sit and follow. If you pull his tail you'll put him in a bit of a rage and he'll chase you."

There is still plenty of space in the toy box for traditional games, from farmyard animals and wooden puzzles to remote controlled cars and board games, Connect 4 and Ker-Plunk and Monopoly.

At least you don't need to worry about running out of batteries for them...
