AFTER a decade in hairdressing, stylist Keith Anderson knew it was the right time to strike out on his own.

He felt Glasgow lacked a salon that combined eco credentials and great hair cutting with hip interior design and so Anderson's Hair was born.

The salon, which is based right in the heart of Merchant City, opened its doors at the end of November.

For Keith, it was all about finding the perfect shop unit in which to create his dream salon.

"The minute I saw the unit on South Frederick Street, I fell in love with it," said Keith.

"The location was perfect, the size and feel of the space was exactly what I wanted.

"It has the most unbelievable shop front with beautiful big window to allow natural light into the space."

The design is a world away from the clinical and bland interior you find in traditional hair salons. Instead it features lots of reclaimed wood and greenery as Keith wanted, "to create an outdoor space indoors."

The hairdressing sections are all bespoke and were built from reclaimed wood and the reception desk, coffee bar and waiting area were made from up-cycled wooden pallets.

"The interior was built with sustainable values and I was committed to reducing my environmental impact with my décor choices." said Keith.

"All the wood used is reclaimed and I used natural colours and materials. I wanted the salon to work in harmony with the Davines product range."

Keith is partnered with the family-owned Davines haircare brand, which launched in 1983.

Davines is a sustainable and eco-friendly beauty brand and produces products free from parabens, sulphates and ammonia.

Once this was all in place, Keith focused on building a team to drive his vision at Anderson's Hair.

He heads up a team including hairstylists Francesca Nicholson, Kirsty Smith and Eirinn Fleming, trainee stylists Keira Campbell and Eve Clark and receptionist Kerri-Adele Connon.

According to Keith, the "colour melt is probably the most requested style at the moment.

Also, by using Davines technique exclusively in Glasgow to Anderson's, we can create, fantastic results with a soft and natural effect."

"Alexa Chung is probably the celebrity that guests show us a photo of the most.

"They want soft, natural looking hair with effortless style and colour that compliments the haircut."

Keith aims to tailor his skills to suit each individual customer.

He said: "My strengths lie in precision cutting, specialising in all gents barbering techniques and ladies colour and cutting.

"I am always looking for the perfect style to suit and always willing to adapt and tailor to my client's needs."

Not content to rest on his laurels just yet, Keith is currently busy preparing for the launch of Anderson's bespoke barber service, which will launch in January in the basement space at the salon.
