Retailer M&S officially opened at the Glasgow Fort today.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held with store manager Kirsty Warwick and the store's 250 new employees.

The day saw customers explore the new 80,000 sq. ft. store, perusing the variety of fashion collections on offer across womenswear, menswear and kids. The 200-seat M&S Café also proved a hit with customers, many of whom took time out to relax and enjoy the new surroundings over a coffee and slice of cake.

Kirsty Warwick, M&S Glasgow Fort Store Manager, said: "The opening of the new store has been the talk of the town over the last few weeks so it's a real thrill to have finally opened our doors and welcome customers inside.

"The opening has also been a celebration for our 250 new recruits. We were inundated with applications and we'd like to thank our recruitment partners for their support in helping us to find such a talented team of people who I'm sure will play their part in making the store a success.

"After weeks of training, we're all very much looking forward to getting to know our customers and providing them with a fantastic shopping experience."

Phil Goodman, Centre Manager at Glasgow Fort, sadded: "We are delighted the opening of the Marks and Spencer store is now here. This is a very important development for Glasgow Fort and the wider local community given the significant level of employment.

"We are confident the store will prove very popular with our shoppers. It is a fantastic store with a great team in place and offers a huge range across clothing, homeware and food.

"A lot of work has gone into making this happen and to have this major development realised is a milestone in our story and we are very proud."

The new store will provide shoppers with free car parking, a food ordering service and the popular Shop Your Way service, giving customers the choice to order from the M&S catalogue in-store or online, with free next day in-store delivery and collection.
