Best Bar None (BBN) is a national initiative designed to improve licensing standards and developing best practice.

This initiative was introduced by CSG in 2005 to ensure that all premises have standards in place to improve community safety, encourage responsible drinking and reduce anti-social behaviour.

BBN also ensures that the door staff are fully licensed and trained in all aspect of customer safety including how to get customers home safely. More recently, there has been a focus in all Best Bar None premises on additional care and attention to recognise vulnerable people affected adversely by alcohol and as a result become a higher risk for being affected by safety issues.

They engage services such as Street Pastors at weekends or Police patrolling the area in the evenings, Licensed premises door Security staff also report any vulnerable females leaving their premises via the night radio network and highlight vulnerable people passing their premises on the street,

2014 sees BBN in its 10th year in Glasgow and our fist success at the BBN National Awards, organised by the Scottish Business Resilience Centre with Glasgow being awarded more awards than any other participating city or town in Scotland. Coopers in Great Western Road won best Community Pub, Driftwood won best Standard Operating Hours, Strathclyde University Students' Union won best Public Health Initiative and Champagne Central in the Grand Central Hotel won best Hotel Bar.

Funding from Glasgow's Alcohol & Drug Partnership, we are committed to delivering further interactive Licensed Trade seminars in partnership with our colleagues in Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Tennent's Training Academy, who this year will sponsor a new award recognising excellence in staff training.

BBN Glasgow now invites applications from licensed premises across the City. Participation in the 2014/15 awards will allow premises to take part in the hugely popular 'People's Choice' award, where premises' customers are invited to vote directly for their chosen venue.
