Glasgow is famous for its great shopping and the city regularly tops polls naming it as the best shopping city in the UK outside London.
And that's a legacy that goes back a long way.
Today's picture of Shettleston's Co-Operative Society was taken in 1956 at a time when Glasgow was beginning to gain a reputation as a retail hub, just as the austerity of the post-war years was being replaced by greater prosperity.
An Evening Times article of the time notes with pride that canny shoppers were coming from far and wide - even from Edinburgh! - to grab a bargain. And making sure shoppers had lots of choice was a priority, with areas such as Shettleston offering plenty of options outwith the city centre.
The article continues: "You can indeed buy everything that you require for yourself, your home and your family - and you can have a pleasant stroll along Shettleston Road and a chat with your chums into the bargain."
