WHEN we see pictures from the fairs of towns and city districts they usually feature a Gala queen or scenes of people having fun at the stalls.
This picture is from the Govan Fair in June 1958, with the celebration consisting of a parade of floats sponsored and decorated by local businesses, led through the streets by the Govan Burgh Band.
The crowds lining the street are clearly full of enthusiasm for the event, and the car and caravan in the picture was adding to the excitement.
It was telling locals about a great caravan contest that would have given the lucky winner lots of free holidays and weekends away.
The contest had been organised by The Bulletin newspaper, a sister title of the Evening Times and then Glasgow Herald.
The Bulletin, which had been founded in June 1915, was well-known for its lavish illustrations. Sadly, just two years after this picture was taken, the title was closed.
It made a brief comeback in 1980 when the Times' owners gave permission for the title
to be used by Glasgow for city council news.
