THE Empire exhibition of 1938 left lasting impressions on many people and put Glasgow at the forefront for innovation.
But quite what this little visitor thought of this exhibit it’s hard to tell.
The impressive-looking mechanical man was made entirely from pots, pans and other household utensils, and took its place in the industrires pavilion.
Millions of visits were made to the show, with school trips bringing bus loads of children from across the country to see the different pavilions, each with a theme ranging from technological advances to lifestyles around the world.
The inspiration it gave a generation of younsgters for innovation and travel can
only be guessed at – who knows what seeds of interest were planted by exhibits depicting technology and
life overseas – even thosemade from household pots and pans.
