MORE than 200 competitors from all over Scotland completed the fifth annual charity Barlinnie Fun Run.
Sixteen prisons sent runners, while other entrants included a team from St Mirren FC reserves.
Boxer Gary Jacobs and ex-Rangers captain Terry Butcher, above, were also there, as was Barlinnie governor Peter Withers and Scottish Prisons Service chief executive Eddie Frizell, who came in for some special treatment from some of the 1200 prisoners.
He said: “The banter between officers and inmates just shows the good relations enjoyed in the majority
of cases.”
The race, which was expected to raise £1000 for Scottish Children in Need, was won by Kirkintilloch firefighter Ian Murphy.
The war had been over for four years, but these youngsters were still helping with the clear-up by removing rubble left from the bombing in preparation for a garden to be created in Glasgow.
