WHEN the Fairy Godmother helped Cinderella to go to the ball she warned the excited skivvy to make sure she was back home by midnight because that was when the magic would end.
But not everyone who goes to the ball follows the same rule ... for some the midnight hour is when they want the fun to begin. That is when they head to the nightclubs to dance into the early hours.
However, in June 1993 Glasgow District Licensing Board put the kibosh on that by imposing a ‘No Entry’ after midnight condition on the city’s nightclubs.
Councillors also insisted premises must close by 2am, when some had previously been allowed to remain open until 5am or 6am.
The move was part of a campaign to curb drunkenness and violence in the streets when club patrons began going home.
One person affected by the new rules was 21-year-old Jacqui Stevenston, from  Lenzie, Dunbartonshire, who found the gates barred when she tried to gain access to the Savoy nightclub in Sauchiehall Street.
Times have now changed. Most city clubs close about 3am ... although Cinds still can’t use them after midnight.
