A MOTHER preparing breakfast for her 13-year-old daughter got the shock of her life when a bus driver popped into their living room ... along with the bus.
Mrs Jean Whyte heard the terrific crash and thought the whole building was going to collapse. She rushed to the room and found large blocks of masonry in the middle of the floor, while three small tables and a standard lamp were  broken. But a vase full of flowers was still intact.
The accident happened at 233 Langlands Road in January 1955 as the vehicle was returning from Hillington with only 27-year-old driver James McMillan and conductor William White, 21, on board. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Mr McMillan said the bus skidded on the slushy road surface and he could nothing to prevent it colliding with the house, which was on the bottom floor of a four-storey tenement.
Mrs Whyte and daughter Sheena were alone in the house at the time as Mr Whyte had already left for work.
No doubt there was a very interesting conversation when he returned home that night.

Ecouter et repeater. These pupils at Smithycroft Secondary in Riddrie, Glasgow, were practising reading and speaking French using the school’s new language lab ... or were they just listening to the charts?
