SIR Cliff Richard celebrated his 75th birthday earlier this month and the star is still delighting fans by touring with his stage shows.
Cliff first wowed fans back in the 1950s and long before the era of Beatles-mania there was Cliff-hysteria.
He did a week of shows at the Glasgow Empire Theatre and every show was packed, with youngsters – mostly female – screaming when he was on stage. In fact, so strong was demand to see him that police, helped by military police, were called in to quell the crowds who held up traffic.
This was the scene on September 29 at the second of his concerts at the Empire.
His backing group was The Shadows who, just two weeks earlier, had changed their name from The Drifters because it clashed with the US group of the same name. Th Shadows’ best known star, Hank Marvin, also marks his birthday today - he is 74.
Cliff and Hank are no longer The Young Ones, but deserve Congratulations all the same.
Harpist Audrey Douglas pulled some strings to give SirJohn Maxwell Primary pupils Scott Tabor, 11, and nine-year-old Donna Christie, a lesson in music at the Burrell Collection in March 1989.
Ms Douglas, a member of the BBC Northern Ireland Orchestra, was putting on special concerts for primary pupils to help them get motivated through music
