EVENING TIMES columnist George Bowie, front right, headed the list of prize guys as Glasgow’s nightclubs came up trumps at an awards ceremony.
The British Entertainment and Discoteque Association held its annual Scottish Awards Ceremony in the city, with formal attire clearly more appropriate than the gladrags more common on the dance floor.
The Hilton Hotel hosted the event where eight of the city’s club kings celebrated awards, with the Tunnel, in Mitchell Street, owned by Glasgow company Big Beat, winning three.
Leaving it to his team to collect the certificates for best DJ, best customer care and best dance club, director Ron McCulloch, said: “This proves we are working in the right direction.”
The glitzy ceremony was compered by television and radio’s Ross King, who recalled his own DJ days.
The event was a precursor
to the industry ‘Oscars’ being held in Birmingham later in the year.
The Duchess of York, who later became queen, was in the West of Scotland and met its latest arrivals in 1932 when she and the Duke of York made an official visit to the area
