These youngsters did not have a vote but housing was a main issue in Glasgow’s Gorbals in 1967 during a by-election

Glasgow Times:

EVER thought you could sing as well as Adele or Justin Bieber?
In 1988, anyone in Glasgow who wanted to test their tones against the stars of their day got the chance when a recording studio organised by the UK Home Electronics Division of Thorn Emi turned up at the Garden Festival site.
The Take 1 studio allowed people to record the song of their choice under professional direction using the latest gear for less than £10.
As well as more than 100 backing tracks, the studio offered an instant dubbing service, allowing the singers to take home as many cassettes as they wished.
Each week, a panel of judges would choose their favourite potential stars – sound familiar? – who would win an award certificate, and the chance to do it all again at a grand final.
Whether anyone made it to fame and fortune after making their first recording here is unknown. What’s certain is that many have followed them in trying to achieve their dreams.
