Taggart was called out to investigate a murder in 1990, in an episode called Death Comes Softly.
The start of the tale marked the end for several elderly victims of a wicked killer, duly stopped in his tracks by the titular TV detective, played by Mark McManus, and his team.
But it also saw the launch of an acting  career, with Blythe Duff taking the role of WPC Jackie Reid for the first time, alongside James MacPherson as
Mike Jardine.
Jackie enjoyed promotion during her many episodes, giving actress Duff as close to a job for life as showbusiness can offer.
The main character for the long-running series was created by Glenn Chandler, who took his inspiration from his observations in the city. He once told of a visit to a pub in Glasgow, where he watched two men looking at plans of a house, which were hurriedly put out of sight when anyone came near.
He used the incident to imagine they had been hired by the pub landlord to kill off his wife and that were making their plans as they enjoyed a pint.
The incident formed the basis for the plot of Murder in Season.
That was before Jackie Reid’s time, but Chandler came up with plenty more cases.
