THESE are kids at play, but the picture sums up the whole problem at that time for the Glasgow housing scheme of Blackhill.
Tenants listed a lack of play areas for children and rubbish in the back courts as the major drawbacks of living in the
district.
It led to a team of Glasgow District Council officials,
led by Councillor Pat Lally, chairman of the housing committee, touring the scheme in August 1975 to gain first-hand information of the problems.
Mr Lally seen above with Reverend Alastair Moodie, of St Paul’s Church of Scotland, Provanmill (on right), got plenty of advice from local people.
He promised quick action and said: “The first thing that strikes you is the number of young children roaming the streets and backcourts.
There appear to be children everywhere.”
As for the complaints about rubbish, he said: “The bin shelters in the backcourts are among the smallest I have ever seen.”
