AS the chill of winter starts to bite, here's an image of what we can look forward to for the next few months.
The Lake of Menteith, near Stirling, was frozen over in 1979 when a grand match, with 2600 curlers was played for the first time in 16 years.
The ice was more than 8in thick in places but there had been fears just days earlier that the event would be called off.
However, the Lake was ruled safe and chosen from four sites being considered for the honour.
Squads of curlers volunteered to prepare the rinks with 330 ultimately making the grade for play.
Unless temperatures plummet, the event won't be held this winter, which is a pity of you are a curling fan, but it has its compensations for those who aren't.
