In today's trip down memory lane we get a bird's eye view of the iconic spot.
Back in 1963, the popular square had plenty of grassy areas for visitors to relax in.
Unfortunately the area is now missing such a luxury and work is in full swing to give it a new look. Visitors however, will miss out on the chance to walk through the square, with cordons in place.
Work also includes improving the landscaping of the two flower beds beside the Cenotaph, which at the moment are dominated by trees and shrubs.
They will be pruned or removed to improve the look of the war memorial and views of the City Chambers.
The much-loathed red surface will also disappear.
