With Britain facing the might of Germany's mechanised army and its blitzkrieg tactics, the country's heavy industry embarked on its biggest ever arms race. And with money in short supply, the Government had to appeal to the public for extra funds to help build more planes and tanks.
As part of their 'Tank Drive', this behemoth was parked up in George Square, where local weans swarmed over it like ants. Their curious parents weren't far behind them, queuing up to get a gander at the war wagon.
Going by the shape of the turret, we suspect this was either a Covenanter or a Churchill tank.
