IT started out as a small school to educate 12 boys who were orphans.
Now Hutchesons' Grammar is an establishment with a proud reputation for education.
The school began in 1641 and today's picture - from March, 1991- shows teachers, pupils and former pupils attending a Founder's Day Service at Glasgow Cathedral that celebrated 350 years for the school.
For much of its early life the boys' school was in Crown Street, in the Gorbals.
In 1876 a girls' school was opened in Elgin Street, moving to Kingarth Street, in Pollokshields, in 1912. In the 1970s the two schools merged at Beaton Road, Pollokshields,
Hutchie, as the school is known informally, has about 2000 pupils.
Some of its well-known former pupils include John Buchan, author of the 39 Steps; Archibald Leitch, who designed stands at Celtic Park, Ibrox Stadium and Hampden Park; MP Anas Sarwar; former Lord Chancellor Derry Irvine; Radio 2 presenter Ken Bruce and TV presenter Carol Smillie.
