Images of the television comedy series Steptoe and Son, starring Harry H Corbett and Wilfrid Brambell, spring to mind when we think of rag and bone men.
Unlike the TV duo, this rag man plying his trade through the streets of Finnieston, Glasgow, did not have a horse to pull his cart, but he still looked the part.
The boys on the pavement are certainly showing keen interest.
Like most rag men, he has a trumpet to make sure people know he is in the street before shouting, 'Any old rags?'
Children would then rush to find old clothes - usually their father's jacket or trousers - to get a balloon or, if they had enough goods, a toy or a notebook and pencil.
Recycling banks for old clothes can now be found in many supermarket car parks
... and the rag man is no more.
